My current theory-slash-headcanon-slash-hope is that the Traveler encountered Jester while patronizing the brothel. This mysterious being takes on mortal form to seek out a bit of entertainment, and while he’s there he goes poking around where he’s not supposed to be to see who or what he can mess with a little, because when is a trickster ever really off the clock, and comes across this bored and lonely child. He makes a mental note to try and make whatever havoc he wreaks entertaining for her, but then he sees what she’s already getting up to on her own.

Oh.

This child doesn’t need an entertainer. This child is a performance all her own already. She just needs a manager, and he wants in.
