Toph is blind, why does she need a slot for her eyes?

In the official art book for the show, they actually pointed out how that was a complete mistake of forgetfulness on their part. They tried redesigning it for it to go around her mouth instead, but production was too far gone and it was too late to fix it.

Basically, even the creators of her character made a classic “forgetting Toph is blind” joke!!!
