I do think so. Helen and Bob would see how Gail doted on the kids, because let’s be real– being a housewife is pretty much Gail’s dream come true. Making a nest, taking care of other people, it’s hardwired in her. (Jack-jack in particular would benefit from Gail’s enthusiasm as a new parent because as the third child, I’m sure Bob and Helen have stopped being quite so overexcited about every little thing he does. Gail would want to take photographs constantly, flip out about every new almost-coherent babble he came up with.)
Helen would remember how in the old days, Gail used to talk longingly about being a mother someday. When they reunited, they’d both be around 45, so the window of opportunity wouldn’t be open much longer. It probably wouldn’t be more than a year after they got into a poly relationship that Helen discussed it with Bob and they brought it up to Gail together. Gail would be shocked, and touched that they would be open to the idea. Knowing Gail, I’m sure a lot of emotional crying would be involved.
And while we’re on the subject…
I think it would be different, but given that I think the whole thing would have been at Helen’s suggestion to start with, I don’t think it would be upsetting to her. Without getting into too much detail, the way I imagine it Helen would definitely be involved in the process and wouldn’t consider herself completely left out. 😉
Helen would be an amazing support for Gail during her pregnancy and early stages of motherhood because she’s been around the block enough times to really know what she’s talking about. Rather than a source of jealousy, it would be something they bonded over.
