we first got Hints of a past relationship (whether platonic or romantic is still fairly up in the air and open to interpretation) in the episode “Go With Me” and even further evidence/hints more Majorly in “What Was Missing”
Now, as far as their rekindled/renewed romantic interest in each other, most fans will cite the Stakes miniseries as being the major turning point for Bubblegum & Marceline’s relationship from platonic to romantic. Especially as after that miniseries, there were greater and stronger hints sprinkled throughout the show, leading up to this finale.
The Canon Confirmation, however, came with the kiss shared between Bubblegum and Marceline. Because as much as We All Know Differently, unfortunately, simple hand-holding and looks exchanged are often brushed aside by many people, as these acts can also be considered platonic in many settings.
A full kiss on the lips however? Especially after such romantic confession/affirmation of feelings?
Much much much harder to brush up as ‘gals being pals’ you feel me?
