Thank you! I also think their dynamic is really interesting.
Evelyn comes from a lot of privilege, and is really proud of her intelligence and capability with all sorts of technology, and upon meeting Gail (no college degree, been homeless for the past several years) she’d be so unimpressed, and determined to despise her.
Like, ugh, THIS is Helen’s ex that she was so bent out of shape over? This absolute idiot who got her dumb ass sucked into a jet?? This scrambled eggs for brains loser who can’t even remember the person who was supposedly the love of her life?? But of course Helen would be RIGHT THERE supervising most of the time, so Evelyn can’t say actually say any of this, just think it very loudly in Gail’s direction, lol.
Meanwhile, Gail would just be blissfully unaware of the tsunami waves of resentment being directed at her and be so grateful Evelyn was helping her out. Her niceness would just make Evelyn even more annoyed. It would also make Evelyn feel guilty, because deep down she feels like she doesn’t deserve that kindness or friendship, not after what she’s done. She thinks if Gail really know everything, Gail wouldn’t be so eager to be kind.
By the time Gail does find out the whole story and Evelyn’s history, she’s already come to think of her as a friend and would be really shocked. But ultimately her response would be, “If Helen can forgive you, then that’s good enough for me.”
