It’s just kind of how she developed!  I think in general she’s always been more easily attracted to women, and until befriending Bob had just assumed she was a lesbian.  In actuality, she’s the type to start to get a crush on anyone who is genuinely kind and attentive to her.  But because she is a bit plain looking and very shy, most men (and many women, too) tend to overlook her completely.
