the proposal is wonderful, it’s everything. but i also want to explore another question that was raised – namely, the idea that they felt like rose decided garnet’s existence for them. like. that’s partially true, but they’re clearly in love…
but then i realized. oh gosh. garnet.
ever since rose left, she’s felt incredible pressure to be the leader. being able to see the future, she “had” to be their guide. ruby and sapphire’s combined strength made her the answer rose toldher she was.
she’s kept all of that inside. she was the person rose – and the team – needed her to be. never questioning her leader, like sapphire, or exploring her independent interests, like ruby.
that’s got to be tough. no matter if you’re in love.
ruby and sapphire love each other. but the role of garnet, her purpose to the team, being unquestioning of that commitment… that was the attitude rose instilled in them. that’s what they needed distance from.
but the most wonderful part is – once they got that distance, they both realized they still adore each other. their relationship is completely genuine. they just needed the affirmation that it exists entirely for its own sake.
ruby’s proposal summed it up – if they don’t feel like being garnet, they never have to. no matter what rose would want… but they can be. it’s their choice.
and now… they’ll always be together, even when they’re apart.
