when lapis returns eventually (because you know she will) I want those “bad things” to happen to her, I don’t want everyone to instantly understand her and forgive her and she cn just pick up where she left off and chill on the beach.
I want peridot to be upset with her for leaving the way that she did. because yes, leaving because she was terrified of being trapped in a mirror again is completely understandable… but taking the barn wasn’t. and let’s all stop and remember that their relationship leading up to this moment (the one that lapis is sad that she can’t return to) wasn’t healthy at all. peridot did all the emotional labor and was absolutely terrified of upsetting her.
all of those things need to be addressed before she can get her happy ending. her feeling bad when she does terrible things isn’t enough. her having ptsd is not an excuse for how she’s treated others. she needs to face consequences for treating others like garbage and learn how to cope with them.
I irks me that “a person who did bad things should face consequences for what they’ve done” could be considered an unpopular opinion—nothing against what you said, but it’s the fact that it’s honestly kind of true that is so upsetting— but the point still stands.
Just feeling bad or saying sorry is never enough. Acknowledging the problem is a good step, but it’s still just a step on the path of becoming a better person, which is a long path. You need to prove you can be better.
on the bright side, all of the notes so far have been supportive and I havn’t received an hate mail! so maybe my opinion isn’t nearly as unpopular as I thought it would be (I was like 85% convinced I would be bombarded by irate fans going “omg why do you hate mentally ill people!11!” as though I myself, am not mentally ill lol)
